2 Day Abu Simbel & Aswan Memories (by bus)
Day 01:
Temple of Ramesses – We will pick you up directly from the entrance door of your hotel in Marsa Alam; you will recognize our driver by a sign with your name in his hand. You will be transferred in an air-conditioned vehicle to Aswan.
First of all you visit the world famous High Dam, a technical and architectonical masterpiece of the 20th century.
In Aswan you will see the Unfinished Obelisk in the ancient granite quarries. After a tasty lunch you will then sail by Felucca across the River Nile to visit the Botanical Gardens on Kitchener’s Island, a peaceful paradise, full of shady trees, beautiful flowers and unusual plants.
And you will see the splendid Philae Temple, a beautiful Nubian sanctuary, which had almost disppeared in the floods of the Lake Nasser reservoir after the creation of the High Dam. An incredible program was undertaken to save this precious historical and archaeological site, and the temple was moved stone by stone to its current higher location.
After this visit you can spend some time on your own walking through the city, or you relax for some time in your hotel.
In the evening we invite you to spend the evening while enjoying the Sound and Light Show at Philae Temple. This show relies on light and sound effects, moving music and the dramatic narration of the history of Nubia. That takes you on a narrated journey to discover the legends of the devine couple of Isis and Osiris. Enjoy the spectacular lights of the multimedia presentation which vividly reveals the form and majesty of this ancient site and walk through the magnificent temple as its history is narrated.
Day 02:
Temple of Ramesses – After breakfast we will move to Abu Simbel, located directly on the western bank of Lake Nasser.
You will visit the two massive temples, maybe the most famous temples in Egypt.
The Temple of Ramesses II was dedicated to the Gods Re-Hor-Akhty, Amon, Ptah, and Ramesses II himself as a deified king. Its façade is 35m long and 30m high. It contains four seated colossi of the king, each of them 20m tall and representing him seated on his throne wearing the double crown, accompanied by smaller figures of his wife Nefertari and their children flanking his legs.
The Temple of Queen Nefertari is located in a distance of 120m from the Temple of Ramesses II and was dedicated to the Goddess Hathor and to Queen Nefertari, the principal and most beloved wife of King Ramesses II. It is also a rock-cut temple with a façade of about 28m in length and 12m in height, which contains 6 standing colossi, each one being about 11m high. Four of them represent Ramses II and the two others represent Queen Nefertari, each is accompanied by two smaller figures of their children. Please pay attention to the fact that here the pharaoh and his wife are shown in equal size; this is unique in the history of Egyptian architecture where normally the queen reaches only up to her husband’s knees.
In the end of the trip our driver will bring you back to your hotel in Marsa Alam
