Overnight Moses Mount & St. Catherine Monastery
Overnight Moses Mount & St. Catherine Monastery
Moses Mount – We will pick you up directly from the entrance door of your hotel in Marsa Alam; you will recognize our driver by a sign with your name in his hand. You will be transferred in an air-conditioned vehicle to Hurghada Airport to fly to Sharm El Sheikh, and then drive to St. Catherine’s Monastery.
The monastery was named after St. Catherine who lived in Alexandria during the persecution of Christians. She was tortured by the Romans for her loyalty to Christianity. Five centuries later, a monk saw a vision in which her body was carried by angels and laid down on a mountain peak in Sinai. Therefore, a church was named after her beside the monastery. Visit this great piece of Christianity that was built by order of the Roman Emperor Justinian I between 527 and 565, enclosing the Chapel of the Burning Bush ordered to be built by Helena, the mother of Constantine I, at the site where Moses is supposed to have seen the burning bush. Further the monastery features a priceless collection of icons, Orthodox church art and manuscripts.
After visiting St. Catherine’s Monastery you will have a rest in the guest house and enjoy lunch before you start climbing up Mount Sinai, also known as Mount Moses, as Moses is supposed to have received the Ten Commandments on its peak. After arriving on the mountain top on a height of around 2,300 meters above sea level, you will wait for the wonderful Sinai sunset.
Please be aware that for hiking up to the mountain top you should be adequately fit and in good health!
Then you will hike downwards again where your driver will wait for you to transfer you to Sharm El Sheikh Airport to fly back to Hurghada. From there our driver will bring you back to your hotel in Marsa Alam.
