Open Water

Prerequisites and Equipment:

To take the Open Water Diver course or Junior Open Water Diver course, you must:

• be at least 10 years old
• possess or rent the basic scuba gear:
  • amask which allows your eyes to see clearly underwater
  • anexposure suit which protects you from cuts and scrapes and retains heat so you stay comfortable; take care that it is your exact size
  • asnorkel which allow you to save air when you are at the surface
  • ascuba unit, the underwater breathing apparatus which allows you to breathe underwater and to rise, descend, hover or float, consisting of a regulator, a tank and a buoyancy control device
  • adive watch
  • adive computer which monitors your depth and time underwater to keep you within established limits
  • aweight system which offsets your tendency to float so you can descend gently underwater when you want to
  • finswhich allow you to swim fast using only your powerful leg muscles
  • adive light for exploring cracks and crevices and for diving at night
  • adive knife as a safety device
  • adive flag/float to keep boaters away from where you’re diving
  • possibly you want to addsignaling devices to get attention of other divers or the dive boat from a distance, an underwater camera and accessories such as underwater slates or lanyards

Open Water Diver Course Program:

You will obtain your first scuba certification. If you’ve always dreamt of scuba diving, discovering new adventures and exploring the wonderful world beneath the waves, this is the first step! You will be taught the basic principles of scuba diving in the classroom during five theory lessons accompanied by five dives in the pool; finally you will gain open water experience during four dives in the sea; you will soon take your first breathe underwater and learn the basic scuba skills – and then it is time to start your underwater discovery!
