Fish Identification

Prerequisites and Equipment:

To take the AWARE Fish Identification course, you must:

• be at least 10 years old
• have already a (Junior) Open Water Diver certification or another qualifying rating
• possess or rent basic scuba equipment

AWARE Fish Identification Course Program:

If you enjoy observing the marine animals you might be interested in having further information which will allow you not only see them, but also identifying the species and knowing about their special characteristics and skills. The AWARE Fish Identification Specialty course provides you with the fish identification basics. And as you will learn the main fish families you will be able to apply your new knowledge in diving vacations all over the world, as the shapes of fishes of the same family resemble each other everywhere, even if the have regional differences in their colors or markings. We will teach you how to plan and organize a fish identification dive and how to identify characteristics of local species; and you will learn about fish survey techniques and strategies. Of course you will not also gain theoretical information but also make two dives to gain experience in looking for and identifying the fascinating fish you see underwater.
