5 Days Jeep Safari through the Heart of Sinai
5 Days Jeep Safari through the Heart of Sinai
1st Day: Hotel – Wadi Feiran – Valley of Inscriptions – Valley of Writing
Wadi Ghazala- In the morning we will pick you up at the reception of your hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Taba or Nuweiba. If you stay in any other part of Egypt such as Cairo we can of course organize the transfer to Sinai for you.
We travel by jeep to the Wadi Feiran which is located on the other side of the Sinai Peninsula so that we have to cross the inland. The Wadi Feiran is Sinai’s largest valley and one of its most important archaeological and historical sites. It was here that Moses is said to have touched a rock with his walking stick, educing a well for the thirsty Israelites. Therefore you can find here lots of remains of ancient churches. But also the nature here is beautiful, with a lush palm forest embedded in the rough landscape with steep cliffs, which gave the wadi the name ‘Pearl of Sinai’. You will enjoy the great landscape by strolling around or relaxing under a palm. Nearby you will visit the Wadi Maghara, the so-called ‘Valley of Inscriptions’. Relief inscriptions in the rocks date back to an early period of Pharaonic Egypt when mines containing turquoises and copper were explored here. There are also several engravings made by officials and administrators of the mines. Further the remains of an ancient fortified settlement have been found here. After lunch you will further ride through the Wadi Mukattab, the ‘Valley of Writing’; its steep rock walls feature countless ancient carvings, most of the in the Nabatean language, and rock paintings. In the late afternoon you will set up camp.
Lunch and dinner included. Overnight camping.
2nd Day: Gebel Mukattab – Wadi Sidr – Wadi Khaneila – Himayir
After breakfast you will visit the remains of an old Roman school at the Gebel Mukattab with its slate used to teach the students. Then you will drive through the Wadi Sidr, an impressing narrow gorge with steep red and black rock walls. In spring you can taste here the delicious jujube (known here as nabq or sidr) fruits, sweet dark yellow drupes growing on the ziziphus shrubs. It’s a great place for a lunch break. You will then cross the Wadi Khaneila, named after trees standing there which are believed to grow in paradise also, to the fascinating Himayir area with rock formations and a high sand dune. You will encamp here.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight camping.
3rd Day: Serabit El Khadem – Temple of Hathor – Wadi Baba Oasis
After breakfast you will drive through the sandy area of Rummlah to Serabit El Khadem and then climb up Mount Serabit where you will find the Temple of Hathor, the ancient love and joy goddess. She was also worshipped as the mistress of turquoises and therefore honored by the miners who once worked here in the rich turquoise mines. In the remains of the sanctuary you can still find their engravings. After descending from the mountain you will drive to the idyllic green Wadi Baba Oasis where you will have dinner and spend the night.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight camping.
4th Day: Wadi Baba Oasis – Monument of Sheikh Habos – Forest of Pillars – Wadi Lukhdar
After breakfast you will head to the mausoleum of Sheikh Hubos, a religious dignitary highly honored by the locals. Then you will drive through the scenic Wadi El Sih until you will reach the Forest of Pillars at the foot of the Mount Fouga, black columns of lave which were laid bare by erosion and now standing like a forest amidst the colored sandstone dominating the area. We will spend our lunch break here. In the afternoon you will set up camp in the beautiful Wadi Lukhdar where you will enjoy a magnificent sunset and spend the night.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight camping.
5th Day: Wadi Lukhdar – Colored Canyon – Wadi Ghazala
After breakfast you will be transferred through the fascinating mountain and desert scenery to the Colored Canyon where you will enjoy a hike through this stunning gorge; its rock formations are extraordinarily beautiful as you cannot only find diverse shapes, but also a multitude of different colors which gave this canyon its promising name. So don’t hurry, take your time to enjoy the unique surroundings and take a rest whenever you need. Some passages are a bit tricky, but your guide will of course assist you in case you need some help. Then we will continue the jeep tour through the famous Wadi Ghazala, one of Sinai’s longest valleys, which is named after the gazelles that are told to graze here.
