The Great Sphinx is a national symbol of Egypt. It has the body of a lion and the face of a man, probably an ancient king. Also in Giza you may visit the Solar Boat Museum (optional), home to the remarkably well preserved boat of the pharaoh Cheops in which he wanted to sail through the underworld. The tour also includes a visit to the Valley Temple.
Then we will head to Cairo city. Cairo, Egypt is an amazing city full of life and movement, and it is that way almost 24 hours a day, with the noisy honking of horns, children playing in the streets and merchants selling their goods. As long as you’re willing to loosen your senses and lose yourself to this majestic city, you can discover the sweetness of Cairo; the coziness of small cafes and the pleasure of strolling along narrow streets. It would be impossible to accurately describe Cairo fairly; it is truly one of a kind.
After your arrival in Cairo you will first of all visit the Egyptian Museum which contains a huge collection of artifacts, jewelry, statues, sarcophagi, mummies and many more items. Discover the treasures of Pharaonic Egypt and plunge into the history of a fascinating civilization. In the afternoon you will be taken to the impressive huge Citadel, built by the famous strategic genius Salah el Din already in the 12th century and until now watching over the city. Afterwards you will have lunch in the local restaurant.
Then we will take you to the Salah El Din Citadel, a great fortress which had originally been founded by the legendary Sultan Salah El Din (known in Europe as Saladin). It contains also the Alabaster Mosque of Mohamed Ali which was designed by the architect Yousif Boushnaq, a Turkish man who came especially from Istanbul to build this great mosque for Mohamed Ali who ruled Egypt for over 45 years (1805-1849)..
Finally we will make a short stop at the Baron Empain Palace. It was built in a very noble neighborhood. Amongst other lofty neighbors, to his left was the Arabesque Palace which serves now as military headquarters. It was abandoned long time ago, but is still fascinating with its extravagant Hindu-style decoration.
