Divemaster Level Course

Prerequisites and Equipment:

To take this course, you:

  • must be at least 18 years old
  • must be a certified Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver
  • must have absolved Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care courses within the past 24 months
  • need at least 40 dives to begin the course and 60 for certification
  • must be fit for diving and submit a Medical Statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months
  • must possess or rent all basic scuba diving equipment as well as some scuba accessories such as a dive slate, a dive knife, a compass, a dive watch etc.; you should if possible possess your own equipment, as familiarity with the personal gear improves general scuba diving skills

Divemaster Course Program:

The Divemaster Course will enable you to start a professional career in scuba diving. Working closely with an instructor, you will expand your dive knowledge and improve your diving skills to the professional level. Besides you will develop your leadership abilities which will qualify you to supervise dive activities and assist instructors with their student divers. You will learn dive leadership skills through both classroom and independent studies, you will complete water skills and stamina exercises as well as training exercises that will stretch your ability to organize and solve problems as well as help others improve their diving. You will of course put this knowledge into action through efficient structured practical training exercises. The Divemaster certification is also necessary if later you want to go for the Assistant Instructor or the Open Water Sciuba Instructor certifications.

Divemaster Certification:

After successfully finishing the course you will become certified as a Divemaster; this means you will be:

  • authorized to supervise training and non-training-related activities by planning, organizing and directing dives
  • authorized to assist an Instructor during the training sessions for any scuba course
  • authorized to conduct the Skin Diver course and the Discover Snorkeling program
  • authorized to conduct the Discover Local Diving experience
  • authorized to conduct the Scuba Review program
  • qualified as a Discover Scuba Diving Leader which means that you can independently conduct the program
  • able to teach the Digital Underwater Photographer specialty as you will earn the Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty Instructor rating
  • authorized to independently guide Open Water Diver course students on the tour portion of their Training Dives 2, 3 and 4 (two student divers per certified divemaster)
  • authorized to accompany Open Water Diver students under the indirect supervision of an Instructor during surface swims to and from the entry/exit point and during navigational exercises, and remain with other student divers (with an individual student or buddy team) when the instructor conducts a skill, such as an ascent or descent
  • authorized to accompany student divers during Adventure Dives or Specialty training dives under the indirect supervision of an Instructor.
  • authorized to conduct the Skin Diver Specialist Aqua Mission
  • authorized to conduct subsequent dives under an instructor’s indirect supervision for Discover Scuba Diving participants after they have satisfactorily completed their first dive with an Instructor
  • authorized to teach Emergency First Response courses (after successfully completing an Emergency First Response Instructor Course)
